The Tale of Venison Cheeseburger Macaroni Hill: Where Deer Go to Die

I was out in the Midwestern wilderness during hunting season, tracking a big ‘ol buck that’s craftier than a politician during tax season. Suddenly, I spotted it—the infamous Cheeseburger Hill. It’s steeper than your uncle’s mortgage after his third divorce, and dragging a deer up feels like pulling a tractor with dental floss.

But fear not, fellow wild game food enthusiasts! All that hard work turns into a delicious, homemade cheeseburger macaroni that’ll make you forget about those sad, boxed meals faster than you can say ” Kraft Heinz who? ” So, as I’m huffing and puffing up that hill, dreaming of venison cheeseburger macaroni, I started doubting life choices (if it were easy, everyone would do it). But then I remembered, self-sufficiency isn’t just a hobby—it’s a lifestyle that’ll have you feeling more accomplished than a squirrel with a year’s worth of acorns.

Now I know the world doubts the practicality of living off the land, but when you’re savoring each bite of this dish, you’ll know it’s worth every drop of sweat. If you’re thinking, “I can’t possibly do this,” remember that even the first caveman had to figure out fire without Google. Start small; maybe just try to not burn water. And for those saying your family won’t support it—just tell them it’s a new video game called “Farming Simulator: Extreme Edition.” They’ll be growing turnips before you know it.

Now, let’s turn that hard-earned venison into a meal that’ll make your Pa proud!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

This recipe isn’t just a meal; it’s a love letter to your stomach. Here’s why you’ll be singing its praises:

  • It’s healthier than a yoga instructor’s Instagram feed.
  • Easy enough for a sleep-deprived parent to make in under 30 minutes.
  • More versatile than a Swiss Army knife at a camping trip.
  • Homemade goodness that’ll make your grandma proud.
  • Perfect for using up that ground venison taking up freezer space.
  • A true one – pot meal, making cleanup as easy as pie.

Homemade Cheeseburger Macaroni Ingredients

  • Ground Venison: The star of the show, more lean than a fitness influencer’s selfie.
  • Macaroni: Because life’s too short for straight pasta, we’re talking elbow macaroni here!
  • Cheese: For enough cheese dip to make a mouse consider moving in.
  • Milk: To make things creamy, not steamy (save that for date night).
  • Butter: Because everything’s better with butter, except maybe your arteries.
  • Beef Broth: Liquid gold that ties it all together, like a good therapist.
  • Flour: The magical powder that turns your pot from soup to supper faster than you can say “Food Network recipe.”
  • Tomatoes (or Rotel if you’re feeling spicy): The juicy secret to success.
  • Seasonings: Because bland is not in our test kitchen vocabulary:
    • Chili powder: Add a kick that’ll make your taste buds do the two-step.
    • Cumin: The spice that makes your neighbors think you’re running a taco stand.
    • Salt: Nature’s flavor enhancer, use it like you’re seasoning the roads for winter.
    • Pepper: Because even your macaroni needs to dress in black sometimes.
    • Garlic: Vampire repellent that doubles as a flavor bomb.
    • Onion: Tears in the kitchen mean smiles at the table.
    • Cilantro: The herb that divides families faster than politics at Thanksgiving.
    • Paprika: Add a dash for color, or dump it in to pretend you’re a smart home chef with ideas healthy enough to earn five stars.

Equipment Needed for Cheeseburger Macaroni

  • Large Skillet or Dutch Oven: Bigger than your dreams and heavier than your regrets.
  • Wooden Spoon: For stirring the turd pot while waiting for the pasta to cook.
  • Measuring Cups: Because “a little bit of this and that” is how you end up with cheeseburger soup instead of macaroni.
  • Instant Pot: (optional) For when you want dinner faster than a teenager can clear their browser history.

How to Make Venison Cheeseburger Macaroni:

  • 2x: For big families or small armies showing up unexpectedly.
  • 3x: When the whole neighborhood “just happens to drop by.”
  • 4x: You’re either meal prepping or having a midlife pasta crisis.

This recipe is really simple, and tastes great! I make this in my 12” cast iron for lunch meal prep because of the versatility and protein.
I recommend sautéing diced mushrooms and garlic right after the meat is browned to give it some extra depth. I also used a can of fire roasted tomatoes which turned out well. And you can never go wrong with more cheese!
